Discover Asado

If you're craving a flavorful and memorable dining experience in the heart of Southbank, look no further than Asado, located at 6 Riverside Quay, Southbank VIC 3006, Australia. This restaurant brings an exceptional blend of Argentine culinary traditions and modern Australian flavors, making it a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists alike.

The name Asado itself is a tribute to the traditional Argentine barbecue, a cooking method that’s deeply rooted in the culture. The restaurant's menu highlights this cooking style, offering a variety of meats grilled to perfection. The dishes are designed to showcase the natural flavors of the ingredients, with a focus on high-quality cuts of meat that are seasoned and cooked slowly over an open flame. Each dish is served with unique sides, designed to complement the smoky, charred flavors of the grilled meat.

One of the standout items at Asado is their signature parrillada, a platter that features an assortment of meats, including succulent steaks, sausages, and lamb chops. The dish is perfect for sharing, allowing guests to sample the various flavors and textures that the restaurant is known for. The grill, or parrilla, is the heart of the kitchen, where the chefs carefully manage the fire to cook the meat to just the right level of tenderness and flavor.

Vegetarians and non-meat eaters are not left behind either. Asado also offers a variety of grilled vegetables, including corn on the cob, bell peppers, and eggplants, all seasoned with the same Argentine flair. These sides are a great complement to the main meat dishes and offer a smoky, roasted flavor that enhances the overall dining experience.

In addition to the food, Asado boasts a carefully curated wine list. The restaurant's focus on Argentine wines is evident, with a selection of Malbecs, Torrontés, and other local varieties that pair beautifully with the bold flavors of the grilled meats. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or someone looking to explore new varietals, the staff at Asado is happy to recommend a pairing to complement your meal.

What sets Asado apart from other dining options in Southbank is its ambiance. The restaurant's open-plan kitchen allows diners to watch as the chefs work their magic over the grill. The large windows offer stunning views of the Yarra River and the Melbourne skyline, making it the perfect place to enjoy a meal while soaking in the atmosphere of this vibrant neighborhood.

For those looking to enjoy a more casual meal, Asado also offers a great selection of tapas-style dishes, perfect for sharing with friends or as a starter before the main event. The empanadas, filled with either spiced beef or vegetables, are a crowd favorite and a great way to start your meal. Paired with a chilled glass of Argentine wine, they make for a delightful appetizer.

If you're planning a special occasion or simply want to enjoy a relaxing evening out, Asado is the place to be. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, offering impeccable service that enhances the overall experience. Whether you're here for a romantic dinner, a family gathering, or a business meeting, you'll feel welcome and well taken care of.

Many guests rave about the atmosphere at Asado, with some noting that it's perfect for a relaxed yet sophisticated dining experience. With its warm, rustic decor and inviting ambiance, the restaurant strikes the perfect balance between casual dining and fine dining.

Overall, Asado is a gem in Southbank, offering a rich combination of flavorful dishes, an extensive wine list, and exceptional service. Whether you're a fan of Argentine cuisine or new to the flavors of South America, Asado delivers an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you craving more.

  • Came here for an anniversary dinner and it was amazing! Staff were very friendly and very accommodating to my partners diet as he is lactose intolerant. Definitely recommend getting a set menu (3 to choose from). I'll let the photos speak for themselves, we will definitely be coming back for more!

  • Amazing food and service however the 2 hrs window for the set menu option was in my opinion way too short, especially if you order more drinks etc. It took exactly 2 hours to have everything from the menu served at our table and in our case we ordered sangria, a full bottle of Amarone wine and Quilmes beer; 2 hrs into our booking, one of the waiters approached us telling us we had 10 minutes left to finish and leave the place. So we had to rush and finish our drinks. Not his fault but seriously the time should be at least 2.5 hrs

  • I didn't know what to expect but in the end I must say I had a great meal here. I had the 120 p/p set and I wasn't disappointed. It came with tapas, wagyu, pork and dessert. I must mention the wagyu. Cooked perfectly, it was tasty, delicious and incredible. All their dishes were beautifully presented, flavoured, cooked and well explained. I also took the wine pairing. Which was superbly chosen and fitted the dishes well. Loved the vibe and the dining environment, while the waiters and staffs were efficient and unobstrusive. The place was also generally quiet and you can have a good conversation. Anyhow, I had a really great meal and recommend coming here for an enjoyable meal.

  • Fantastic service and friendly waitstaff who give great recommendations and thoughtfully suggest menu options to accommodate dietary needs. The team took time to explain dishes and offered pairing suggestions, which made choosing easier and more enjoyable. In addition to our starters, we ordered the 500g ribeye and 300g lamb rump both arrived perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavour. Portions are generous and the quality of the meat really stands out. The only drawback (if you can call it that) is the premium price, but the attentive service, excellent cooking, and thoughtful menu guidance make it worth the splurge. To fully appreciate what Asado offers, sample something from each course so you taste the variety and craftsmanship across starters, mains and cocktails!

  • Stopped in for a couple of small entrees and a coffee, coffee was delicious the entrees I got were the black anchovies with garlic cream on toast. Very nice, very small tho. Interesting anchovies they weren’t the normal strong salty tasting ones that u normally get on a pizza. Also got beef empanada. That was great. Very tasty in a nice crunchy pastry. And finally the beef skewer. Quite nice but again very small for $15 but good. Although I will note that they cook them on the rare side which might not be to some people’s taste. Overall very nice food will definitely pay another visit to try some mains. Must note great friendly Argentine staff.

  • Good food and service with room for improvement. Had the beef tongue for $9, tartare for $26, black spiced sausage for $17, entrana skirt steak for $58. Was excited for the beef tongue based on the number of reviews of it. It definitely had good char and was tasty. However the texture was quite a let down. Much too soft and mushy for a tongue cut. Tartare was the reverse with a firm meaty texture but flavours were a bit unbalanced with a little too much on the sour side. Was informed by the staff that it was a new recipe for one of their signature dishes introduced for the first time the day before. Creme fraiche had a delicious smoky flavour as well. Spicy black sausage again had great char flavours but the texture was a bit of a let down. Crumbly minced like textures rather than meaty bites. Quite greasy as well. The entrana was a bit too salty and oily. Tasted a little like they double salted it - once before cooking and another salting after cooking. Great char and medium rare textures for a skirt cut but the salt and oil detracts from the experience. Sangria was on point. Refreshing, strong and tasty. After ordering the above, we were advised by the waitress that servings may be quite small and it may be enough if we weren't too hungry. We were. But the four dishes was still quite a bit for the two of us. Left feeling a little bit too full. Quite glad we didn't order more. But perhaps food was heavier rather large in proportion. Service was good. Responsive with requests and even double checked on dishes after ordering because of food allergies. Minor issues was asking for the creme fraiche on the side but wasn't served it instead and having to ask for it again. Main lady at the front desk was welcoming at the start and responsive to feedback after the meal.

Outdoor dining is amply available. San Telmo team doesn’t disappoint. It masterfully puts together delectable range of delicately prepared tapas and rustic smoky meat plates and quintessential Argentinian desserts for your ultimate culinary experience. A sophisticated ambience perfect for a special occasion. I was blown away with the fantastic culinary experience, fabulous service and the amazing atmosphere. The approachable and helpful dining service made my dining experience very enjoyable from the start to the end. Thank you Asado team.
